Some misunderstand it though thinking you have to have all hero windows open.
No you only open them to change their group, to decide which flag they follow. Absolutely no need to clog up your screen.

Why not just change the options on the existings flags.

1= flag total group.
2= flag melee in your group.
3= flag Casters......
4= flag rangers/paragon

Not that simple, but that would be the default flag assignment.
But there's PBAOE casters, regular casters, bonders, all require their different tactics and placements etc.

Again you misunderstand the idea. It's NOT about having 7 hero skillbars open to command them, that WOULD have been a terrible idea. All it does is allow you to change under which flag each hero responds too, after that you can have ALL your hero bars closed and just flag them as you always have.

It would of course be a bad idea to have all the hero skill bars open on the screen at the same time, but since you only need it open to change the groupings its not a problem.

Its fine of you have a large monitor, I just moved from a 17 inch standard screen to a 22 inch wide screen and its no problem at all.
What used to be a very congested screen even with just the radar map and party window is well able to handle hero bars and mini map open all the time without a problem.

the all-flag that moves your henchmen.

So you're saying keep the 4 flags on the compass and then the heroes can have the option to be under 1 2 or 3?
If so i guess thats not a bad idea but i still like the other idea where the flag is at the end of the heroes name in the party window.

IMO, still 4 hero control buttons, the first one automatically flags all to one location, and the other three are customizable formations.
